There are many causes for tuber cracking and deformations and establishing the cause is not easy. It is admitted that some symptoms are due to either abiotic factors ( humidity, temperature, phytotoxicity, etc...) resulting into physiological reaction, or  due to pathogens (fungi, viruses, etc...) resulting into diverse symptoms such as cracks and/or deformations.
