Diagnostic characters for visual diagnosis

  • Rough, irregular, netted, crinkled, scaly, crackled shallow, thick russeting sometimes located on a deformation of the tuber or scattered
  • All the symptoms represented on this page were observed on potato tubers grown in soil artificially inoculated with R. solani AG3
  • Similar symptoms may be observed and due to other unknown causes

Notes on confirmatory diagnostics

  • These symptoms are secondary symptoms due to the plant response to the R. solani stress
  • Hyphae of  R. solani  may still be present on newly harvested tubers, it is then possible to isolate the pathogen on malt medium
