Skin discoloration

Typical discolorations on tubers  can be:

  • Silvery lesions with well defined brown margins, when microsclerotia are present, these are thin and not well spaced > Silver scurf
  • Diffuse brown lesions irregulary shaped with less well-defined margins, when microsclorotia are present, these are larger than those of silver scurf and regularly spaced > Black dot,
  • Orange brown lesions, irregular in shape with distinct but irregular margin, absence of microsclerotia on the lesions > Golding blotch
  • Other discolorations can be encountered, which are not readily attributable to a specific cause
